Additional Support
There are several organisations that are a good source of information and additional support in Jersey and across the UK. A few of our friends are listed below.
Brightly
Brightly is a small independent charity in Jersey. It offers grants to young people up to 25 years of age who live in care, have experience of care or who face adversity. The aim is to support positive experiences and opportunities that encourage independence.
Children’s Commissioner
The Children’s Commissioner for Jersey is Dr Carmel Corrigan. She works with her team to promote and protect the rights of children and young people. You can find more information about the work and services of the Children’s Commissioner on their website.
Barnardo's (Jersey)
Barnardo's (Jersey) provides advocacy services for children and young people who are currently ‘children in need’ or under ‘child protection’.
Become (England)
Become is a charity that supports individuals with care experience. They offer several services. These include a care advice line, coaching and a website for support with higher education. Weekly virtual hangouts bring young people together to chat and have fun.
VOYPIC (Northern Ireland)
Voice of Young People in Care is a voluntary organisation in Northern Ireland. It provides advocacy services and helps to connect young people with care experience. VOYPIC hosts regular groups to help build personal skills. You can contact them by email or phone. They have offices in Ballymena, Belfast, Derry-Londonderry and Lurgan.
Who Cares? Scotland
Who Cares? Scotland is a voluntary organisation working across Scotland with care-experienced people of any age. They provide advocacy and work to influence legislation and policy, bringing about positive change within the care system.
EPIC (Ireland)
EPIC is an independent national voluntary organisation. It provides one-to-one advocacy for children, young people and adults who have experience of care. EPIC also works to ensure that care is a positive lived experience.
Voices from Care (Wales)
Voices From Care Cymru supports children and young people in Wales to protect their interests. It offers counselling and wellbeing support. The 'Get Ready' service helps young people prepare for independent living.
